The Peanuts

It was another rainy day at the cottage. It had been raining cats and dogs for days. I had played all my games and read all my books. I wanted something new to do. Outside of my window I heard a noise. It was a chipmunk busy eating acorns. Then I remember that dad had peanuts. He kept them in a large jar. I didn't think he would mind if I gave the chipmunk a few. I brought the jar of peanuts outside.

"Nice fresh peanuts," I called to the chipmunk.

The chipmunk stopped what he was doing and ran away. I decided to leave a few peanuts out on the porch. Then I sat quietly in the old rocking chair. Within a few minutes the curious chipmunk came back and ate all the peanuts! I put out a few more. This time the chipmunk came back with a friend. Before I knew it I had ten chipmunks around me and an empty jar of peanuts. Dad says we can go to the store later but the peanuts are for him!
